The ARCHAVE system, using a CAVE as the name indicate, was used by expert archaeologists to investigate lamp and coin finds throughout the excavation trenches at the Petra Great Temple site in Jordan. The excavation site is represented by a 3D model using dark grey texture and artefacts find are represents by small 3D glyphs at their finding location. Shape is used to convey type, tetrahedral are lamps and hexagonal are coins. Color represents artefact’s cultural origin.
To let the user navigate the full virtual excavation site a teleportation feature was implemented on top of the physical navigation. Selection of the point of arrival is done through a mini-map of the Petra Great Temple letting the user cover fast distance instantaneously.
