“Dynamical statistical graphics enables data analysts in all fields to carry out visual investigations leading to insights into relationships in complex data”. Using an immersive environment to present such data was a novel approach in 1996. A dataset containing measure of 329 cities in United States about climate, terrain, housing costs, health care, environment, crime rate, transportation, education, arts, recreation, and economics was used. Three attributes were linked to each axis of a 3D scatterplot visualization.
Access to the city name is done through pointing gesture thanks to a data glove, moreover user can change color and shape of data point by grabbing a 3d model via pinch gesture and brushing over the data point of interests. More details on all the system functionalities are available in the video above.
